Contourglobal Maritsa East 3 Joined Volunteer Day

ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 has made its participation in the Volunteer Day initiative an inspiring tradition. Faithful to their ambition to excel in their social activities as well as in their work, more than 50 employees of the company in Stara Zagora and Sofia joined the voluntary initiative, regularly organized by the Bulgarian Charity Aid Foundation (BCAF) in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria throughout the country.

Some 30 volunteers who were on their working places at the thermal power plant on the working Saturday today took part in the planting of more than 210 trees and bushes in the area in front of the Water Treatment Plant on the site. They had a chance to join a unique training in botany, getting to know some exotic plants such as Horizontal Juniper and Japanese Weigela and acquiring the skill to distinguish between Arizona Cypress and the ordinary cypress species. This project was introduced by company’s employees for improvement of the area of the plant.

A dozen of volunteers helped for removing the wild bushes and cleaning the area surrounding the Day Care Center for People with Mental Disorders “St. St. Kozma and Damyan” in Stara Zagora. As in previous years, the group joined the clients of the establishment who have become their friends thanks to the numerous joint initiatives in the past years, including the recent Easter Workshop at which employees and their children prepared Easter decoration together with the clients of the Daily Center.

The daily programme of ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 employees in Stara Zagora also included an initiative in the local Maria Terezia orphanage. For the first time in recent years a group of volunteers painted the swings, branches and fences in the yard of the orphanage, thus improving the environment and also bringing a new spirit and color to the life of children there.

Meanwhile, in Sofia another group of ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 volunteers continued their last year initiative in the Prof. Dr. Decho Denev Secondary Specialized School for Hearing Impaired Children. Led by the AgroLink Fuondation and accompanied by the enthusiastic children and other companies’ volunteers, they cultivated and polished the bio garden of vegetables they created together in 2012.

The Volunteer Day has been organized regularly by the Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation (BCAF) in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria in the past six years. ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 has been an active participant in most of its editions, and in 2013 the company even expanded the scope of the projects and the social impact of the initiave.
