The British Embassy in Sofia reports positive achievements on its environmental targets in 2010-2011

The Embassy succeeded in reducing its total CO2 emissions by 7%, saving approximately BGN 20,000. 27% reduction in the use of heating oil in the Residence and the optimisation of office space in the Embassy were amongst the biggest successes of the Embassy greening programme. Four solar panels were also recently installed in the Residence, which will contribute to further reduction in the use of conventional energy and carbon emissions.

The British Embassy in Sofia is committed to a long term strategy to reduce its environmental impact through maintaining an Environmental Management System.  In 2010-2011 they succeeded in achieving most of their annual environmental targets in implementation of the environmental policy focused at the major challenges to the world community today: resource depletion, environmental degradation and climate change. Thus their environmental performance was improved and, importantly, the costs were reduced as well.
