Project Aim
BILLA Bulgaria is the retail chain with the largest number of stores in the country and one of the largest employers - with over 5 200 employees. In 2023, the company was certified by the prestigious international organization Top Employers Institute as a “Top Employer” in the country for the high quality of its employer policies and practices. BILLA Bulgaria's main goal is not only to provide its employees with excellent working conditions, but also to be recognized as a safe employer that supports its employees in every area of their personal and career development. The retailer makes daily efforts to build on its strategy in various areas, including employee compensation and benefits, working conditions, training, and professional development.
Project Target Group
The main mission of BILLA Bulgaria is to support and stimulate the growth of its employees at every step of their career in the company. The retailer has a comprehensive care and development policy in place - onboarding programs, advanced training, and additional qualifications for management positions. The company focuses on the potential of each team member and prepares an individual plan for their development.
Project Duration
For over 23 years, BILLA Bulgaria's most important focus has been people and caring for them - caring for consumers, the environment and society as well as caring for employees. The company regularly conducts internal employee satisfaction surveys in order to respond adequately to their needs. For 2023, BILLA has upgraded its benefits, rewards, and training policy. It has successfully implemented internship, mentoring and apprenticeship programs with national reach.
Project Activities
BILLA has 4 training centers in the country - the only of their kind in the retail sector. In the specialized “Schools for Experts” employees undergo introductory training, upgrade programs for qualification or those for personal development and soft skills.
Employees receive additional health insurance, preventive check-ups, and company cars - in key units.
BILLA runs a student program in Sofia for young people aged 16 to 18 with excellent work conditions. The overwhelming interest in 2023 motivated the company to expand it to 8 more cities.
28 students completed their dual training at BILLA for the 2022-2023 school year, some of them choosing to continue their career path at the company. For the first time, a class from Pleven also graduated.
For the 15th year, the internship program at the company's Central Office has been launched, with more than half of the participants choosing to continue their career path at BILLA, and some of the graduates already holding managerial positions in the company.
In the "Social Fund" initiative, active for 9 years now, the company's employees allocate funds for their colleagues who find themselves in a difficult life situation.
