Project description

Project Aim

The mission of health, development and well-being of people is at the heart of BILLA. The policy of supporting social causes plays a key role in the company's drive to make Bulgaria a better place to live by giving a hand and hope to vulnerable groups in the country. Every day, BILLA works on projects that are sustainable over time and aimed specifically at improving the quality of life of the most precious and fragile part of society - children. Throughout its journey, BILLA strives to build a better and sustainable community by partnering and supporting the efforts of 5 organizations. Over the years, the company has impacted positive change in the lives of hundreds of families with reproductive issues, thousands of children, youth and families in need.

Project Target Group

BILLA actively and consistently supports social causes. In 2023, the company supported educational and sports activities for children and young people of the “Concordia” Foundation and “SOS Children's Villages”, programmes for couples with reproductive problems of the “I Want a Baby” Foundation, provided food and hygiene products for disadvantaged people cooperating with the Bulgarian Red Cross, enabled an equal start in life for visually impaired young people through the Union of the Blind.

Project Duration

BILLA's focus is making a better future for children in Bulgaria. The company has been collaborating with BCH since 2015 and has been part of the Warm Lunch programme since 2021. BILLA has been partnering with the Union of the Blind for over 8 years, and the 13-year partnership with SOS Children's Villages Bulgaria continues today. One of the most significant causes that the chain has launched 7 years ago is the campaign For more children in Bulgaria, for families with reproductive problems.

Project Activities

BILLA has an impact on improving the quality of life of thousands of children, youth and families in need. In addition to indispensable financial support for families with reproductive problems, the company actively supports the “I Want a Baby” initiative by supporting the creation of reproductive health discussion groups, emotional support groups and prenatal care events. The Summer Academy, which “SOS Children's Villages” runs together with BILLA, is a unique opportunity for disadvantaged children and their families to enrich their cultural and emotional horizons, create new friendships and develop their potential. BILLA and the “Concordia” Foundation jointly organise sports tournaments and educational activities for children and young people at risk. Through sport, adolescents develop their social skills and learn to be purposeful. BILLA strongly believes that every young person has the right to an equal start in life. One aspect of the partnership with the Blind Union is the donation of specialised laptops and innovative reading devices. Thanks to them, visually impaired young people have the opportunity to develop their interests and achieve success.

Project Results

The cooperation between BILLA and “I Want a Baby” Foundation is impressive - over 30 healthy babies have been born within the program. BILLA's partnership with the Blind Union started in 2015 and the chain has provided grants to support 2 500 people. In 13 years, the company has donated more than £90 000 to parentless children. At the “SOS Children's Villages” Summer Academy, dozens of children and parents made new friendships and took their first steps towards a more confident and peaceful future. Thanks to BILLA, the total number of students supported since the start of the “Warm Lunch” initiative in 2004 is over 20 400. Hundreds of children and young people from socially vulnerable families have been provided with free hot meals through the programme for the 2022-2023 school year.
