Project Aim
Citizen Day is a global initiative of L'Oreal, as part of which the company's employees spend 1 day volunteering for various initiatives. This annual day has enabled employees from nearly 65 countries to dedicate over 1 million working hours to volunteering. In 2022, the company's Bulgarian team renovated the accommodation centre for refugees from Ukraine "Hugs from Bulgaria" in Pernik city. The project not only embodies the Group’s commitment to CSR, but also contributes positively to the local community.
Project Target Group
The target group of Citizen Day 2022 in Bulgaria was the society in general and the company's employees, who are encouraged to become more socially responsible and contribute positively to the local community in which L’Oreal operates by providing support to refugees from Ukraine, helping over 70 mothers and children looking for a new home in Bulgaria.
Project Duration
Introduced in 2010, Citizen Day has become an annual company tradition in which each year nearly 30,000 company’s employees actively participate in various solidarity initiatives. This day reflects the L’Oreal's commitment to being socially responsible. Other causes supported by L'Oréal employees include providing support to victims of violence and human trafficking, supporting foster care (foster parents and children), and supporting children deprived of parental care.
Project Activities
For Citizen Day 2022 in Bulgaria, L'Oreal employees joined forces with the representatives of the Ukrainian refugee accommodation centre "Hugs from Bulgaria" in Pernik. On July 14, 2022, L'Oreal Bulgaria volunteers managed to renovate and refresh the center, improve the yard and outdoor space around it, creating better conditions for temporary accommodation. By actively engaging in activities such as overhauling the center's fence, landscaping the courtyard, and refreshing the exterior of the center, the volunteers expressed their support for the noble cause of providing temporary shelter for those in need. In this way, they were able to completely change the atmosphere and ambience of the center.
The L'Oréal team also had the chance to hear first-person stories from residents of Ukraine and help them feel "welcome" in Bulgaria. In addition, they gave the children from the center the opportunity to feel part of the initiative by helping them personally decorate their home with drawings on the inside of the center's fence.
Project Results
United by a good cause, the team of L'Oreal Bulgaria helped to renovate the Ukrainian refugee accommodation center "Hugs from Bulgaria" and turn it into a more comfortable home for the people seeking asylum there. As a result, at the end of the day the outside of the house looked more welcoming, the garden took on a fresh look and the place began to feel like a real home. With over one million volunteer hours over the last 13 years, L'Oreal Bulgaria has already supported many different noble causes.
