Project Aim
One of the priorities of FANTASTICO GROUP is to develop its activities in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Therefore, the company makes investments that lower its carbon footprint every year. Efforts are focused on several areas:
- own photovoltaic systems;
- refrigeration equipment operating with low energy consumption and an environmentally friendly refrigerant;
- LED lighting
- use of an 'energy manager' for resource management;
- recovery of waste by a separate collection of waste paper, cardboard, polyethylene, batteries, and light metals;
- a waste heat recovery system;
- charging stations for electric vehicles
- 100% biodegradable shopping bags;
- reusable packing cases;
- rich landscaping.
Project Target Group
Policies for the production of own green energy, utilization of waste, saving resources, and improvement of urban areas where the company operates, primarily benefit local communities and the company staff. At the same time, they are a small but significant element of the global effort to protect the planet, because they are part of the change in attitudes of both the employees and customers of FANTASTICO GROUP.
Project Duration
The development of activities relating to natural resources cost optimization and reduction of the harmful effects on nature is upgraded every year, with the share of investments increasing not only in line with the construction of new commercial sites but also in the renovation and refurbishment of existing sites.
Project Activities
In 2022, FANTASTICO built 12 photovoltaic installations with a capacity of 1 600 kWp, investments totaling almost 2 million BGN. In 2023, the company will invest over 5 million BGN to improve energy efficiency. A large-scale expansion of the chain's logistics base is planned, where the largest photovoltaic system with a total power of about 2,000 kWp will be built.
In 2022, over 1,300,000 BGN were invested to replace conventional with LED lighting in 10 retail outlets.
The company optimizes all processes on its sites. Currently, 23 sites are fully secured with hot water using the heat already generated by the refrigeration equipment.
Waste is collected separately and 695 tons of paper, 47 tons of polyethylene, and 4 tons of light metals are handed over for recycling annually.
The company offers 100% biodegradable shopping bags. At the supermarkets, they are at a lower price than that polyethylene bags. Paper, cotton and textile bags are also available, thus stimulating a reduction in the use of polyethylene.
In the logistics base, suppliers use reusable packing cases – owned by FANTASTICO. About 180000 pcs are used per month, which saves about 90000 kg of plastic/
Project Results
Built in 2022, the twelve photovoltaic installations are expected to generate 1,800 MWh of green electricity in 2023. Almost 10% of the electricity needed for supermarkets with photovoltaics on their roofs will be provided by those installations. The chain will thus achieve a reduction in CO₂ emissions by some 900 tonnes per year, and taking into account all energy-saving measures, the amount is about 1,700 tonnes annually.
The construction of the largest photovoltaic system on the roof of the company's logistics base and of another photovoltaic system for a new supermarket in Sofia is expected to push the generation of green energy up to 4,200 MWh in 2024.
After the investment in LED lighting, about 1,182 tons of CO₂ emissions will be saved per year.
