Project Aim
Bee farms in Bulgaria have decreased by nearly 3000 in the last 3 years. We created Beekeeper For a Day with the Istinski med Foundation aspiring to stop this trend and lend a hand to small honey producers. The problem of bee preservation is impressive, and so was our decision - 500 committed volunteers to create favourable conditions for 50 beekeepers to thrive. Moreover, through financial support to ensure the creation of 60 bee colonies and an increase in efficiency by 50% on 10 farms by donating modern equipment.
Project Target Group
50 beekeepers, part of the Bee University and the Adopt a Beehive program from all over Bulgaria. Engaging hundreds of employees and their friends to volunteer (creating conditions for raising more than 3.6 million bees in new families) and external audience with the cause, helping biodiversity.
Project Duration
The Environment is a priority pillar in our CSR policy. ‘Beekeeper for a Day’ has built on the achieved in the last 3 years through the initiative #ForOurNature and the Adopt a hive, Bee Museum and Active with a Cause, projects, scaling the aid and committing to sustainability in the years to come.
Project Activities
The project Beekeeper for a day included activities throughout the year: organization, communication, volunteering and donations.
Our partners identified the target group's needs, invited expert beekeepers, provided specialized equipment and materials, and developed a methodology for selecting beneficiaries.
We found a venue for the event that met all needs and necessary security measures - the Sofia Zoo. We developed an internal communication campaign with a new visual line to engage employees and an external information campaign to promote the cause.
Over 500 employees, their families and friends, dedicated 4000 hours to become professional beekeepers, in which they: assembled and painted new hives; calved and put wax bases on honey frames; unsealed honeycombs, centrifuged them and filled 600 jars of honey; made hundreds of drinkers for bees.
Dozens of employees choose to bring their children and thus involve them in the cause. In addition, the company donated ten electric honey centrifuges.
Project Results
50 beekeepers in the country received materials to modernize their apiaries from basic materials to high-tech electric centrifuges, which increase the work efficiency by 50% 40-60 hours of work were saved for each and securing time for qualified work activities for the bees. The volunteer work resulted in a donation of all needed equipment for a colony and most important 60 new hives, a home for over 3.6M new bees to pollinate over 50 billion plants and produce more than 2.5 tons of honey/year
