Project description

Project Aim

Externally, we address: Education for kids, Social support of disadvantaged people, Environmental protection, and Ending violence against women and kids. Since 2018 we had 2 multiple-choice online surveys, asking all our 300+ colleagues to select the areas the company should donate to. The first 3 appeared as winners on both surveys (3 years apart), and the new one in 2022 was Ending violence against women and kids. We support trustworthy NGOs who are doing amazing jobs in these areas. Internally, we asked all our employees to be part of all selection processes. We keep meeting them with the chosen NGOs and informing them about their work and achievements so that we can educate them on the issues, ignite their interest, get them involved, be volunteers, activists, and donate personally.

Project Target Group

All Melon employees in Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Skopje, and Pristina–300+. Together they all chose focus areas, and the NGOs we support 7 NGOs in BG & MK: Lulka (premature kids in MK); Association for Shared Learning ELA (edu for children from vulnerable groups); Hug me (art workshops for orphaned kids); Biodiversity Foundation, Real Honey (environmental efforts); Pulse Foundation (Ending violence against women and kids); BWF’s Urgent Fund for Women and Children Affected by the War in Ukraine

Project Duration

Year-round. By 2018, we had deployed CSR efforts in a piecemeal way. Melon employees have always loved it: suggesting and participating in various non-profit initiatives and voting to include CSR activities at Melon’s annual team-buildings. It was only natural to structure all our efforts and match them with a budget to complete Melon’s Responsibility Program. The process was designed in 2018, fully unfolded in 2019 and after assessing the impact, we decided to carry on with it and upgrade it.

Project Activities

In 2022, we had 3 surveys in our offices asking all our employees to whom and how the company should donate. Independently, they selected the same 4 focus areas: kids’ education, environmental efforts, social support, and ending violence against women and kids. Together with the Bulgarian’s Donor Forum and Reach for Change, our Responsibility Director shortlisted trustworthy NGOs with a proven social impact. Again, all our employees were asked to select 1 organization per focus area to receive equal amount. These are: Edu: Сдружение за споделено учене „Ела“; Social Support: Прегърни ме; Environmental Efforts: Фондация „Биоразнообразие“; Ending violence against women and kids: Фондация „Пулс“. In Skopje: Lulka-Premature babies. They were invited to present themselves live at our Sofia Office with an online streaming for those who are remote. All our employees were invited to join them as volunteers according to their interest This is how we've been unfolding and growing our Responsibility Program since 2018 Earlier in 2022, we donated to the BWF’s Urgent Fund for Women and Children Affected by the War in Ukraine as part of our Re-active (in times of big crisis) Responsibility Fund

Project Results

In line with our operations and business model (organic growth and people-centric equal opportunities company), we designed our Responsibility Program to involve all interested employees (оут оф 300+) and then address the social needs they selected. We educate, raise awareness within the company, embrace and encourage volunteering, activism and personal donations via introducing the NGOs' work and imapct, and regularly communicating their activities internally. On the outside, since 2018 we support various NGOs in 4 focus areas. In 2022 – 7 in number. The funds help them carry on their operations. They spend them as they find fit, which is a rare kind of support in our reality. They identify their needs and address them. They provide us w/ simple, activities only, reports.
