Project description

Project Aim

When topics like disposable plastic and polluted air hit the television, companies' reactions are often delayed. It is no accident that we are developing our CSR policy under the slogan "Actions bring change". Nature is a key direction in it, and so we act long before speaking on environmental topics filled the public space. In recent years, we have invested more than BGN 12 million in the environment, while continuing our strong focus on plastic.

Project Target Group

In 2019, we continued to invest in energy efficiency, electromobility and “green delivery“ and worked hard to limit plastics: we added new sustainable shopping opportunities for our customers, and with a number of initiatives, we engaged tens of thousands of Bulgarians across the country.

Project Duration

CSR is an essential part of the activity, morals and culture of our company. It is an engine for business decisions and nature is a key area of work. We are pursuing a sustainable policy with a contribution to nature and investing consistently, upgrading and expanding our activities in 2019.

Project Activities

In 2019, we defended the ISO 50001:2011 certificate. We built facilities according to the latest eco standards, equipped them with free electric charging stations and air-conditioning systems that use the residual heat from the refrigerated showcases. We continued to work for green delivery and currently 75% of all deliveries to our stores are with CNG fueled trucks. The focus is plastic. We no longer sell disposable plastic tableware and cutlery and replaced them with recyclable and compostable ones. We work to reduce plastics by at least 20% by 2025 and 100% recycable packaging of our products. Our vegan products are now packaged with up to 70% paper, Bevola brand offers paper earbuds and wipes in boxes from which we've removed the plastic. We also removed it from our K To-Go drinks. We organized a national tour of the first documentary film on plastic pollution of the Black Sea, Books for waste, Kaufland Sofia Half Marathon without plastic supplies, cleaning of Kamchiya beach.

Project Results

In 2019 our sites saved 3,500 t of COв‚‚ emissions. We save 88 t of plastic a year in result of cancelling the sale of disposable tableware and 9 t of removed nylon from vegetables. We collected over 13 t of plastic in the Books for waste initiative and nearly 1 from Kamchiya Beach. We expect more than 1,200 t of saved plastic from the suspension of disposable shopping bags. We've supported the knowledge of plastic pollution in Black Sea with film tour with over 20 screenings and over 3000 viewers
