Project Aim
Nowadays working with technologies is not a whim but a necessity. In order they to be accessible for everyone regardless the age, knowledge and practice possibilities must be provided. A1 Bulgaria stands for the idea that the digitalization should bring people closer, not divide them, and so the company started the international initiative "Internet for All: 55 +" in Bulgaria as well (part of the strategy of A1 Group) - a series of local computer literacy and safe internet trainings for seniors.
Project Target Group
The program targets people over the age of 55 with an interest, but lack of technology and communication knowledge. 100 men and women between the age of 60 and 83 from small towns/villages(the towns Belene, Dryanovo & Radomir;the villages Cenovo & Novo selo, Vidin district)took part in this edition.
Project Duration
As part of the mission of A1 Bulgaria to empower technology life for everyone, the company started “Internet for all” in 2014 with trainings for over 2000 people each year on safe networking and media literacy. In 2016 the program successfully included seniors over the age of 55.
Project Activities
As part of the Program, which started on October 1st - the International Day for the Elderly, and finished in December 2019, in the trainings 100 men and women between 60 and 83 from small towns and villages were included. The groups are made up of 10 people, all working as a team and individually. The trainings last 20 classes, spread over time so that the students can master the material as best they can.
The program enrollment happened after the information was spread in the different local community centers. The program was promoted through A1 shop network, as well as media and online communication.
The program gives skills and knowledge for the work in internet with different mobile devices- laptops, tablets and smartphones. It includes four modules in total: introduction to computer technology; Internet access; use of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets); online security. Particular attention is drawn to digital security - online fraud, viruses, fake news.
Project Results
The results from the training are very good and show that efforts give results. Before starting of the course, only 1% of all participants were able to copy, modify, or relocate a file, and by the end of it 64% could do so. The course helped 50% of participants learn how to work with social networks (20% at the beginning and 71% at the end). Only 12% of the students were able to work with email before going through the training, and after that it increased to 75%.
