Project description

Project Aim

The aim is to raise the awareness of children and cyclists about the specifics of truck traffic and thus reduce the risk of accidents to a minimum.

Project Target Group

Children cyclists between the ages of 10 and 15, their teachers and parents. They are reached through training in schools, at theoretical and practical parts - where students can get acquainted with the blind spots of a truck in one parked in the yard of the school itself.

Project Duration

Start Date: 04/19/2019. End Date: 31/10/2019 Duration of the training - 1 hour theoretical part and between 1 and 2 hours practical part.

Project Activities

Nine events were held in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Turnovo, Dobrich, Svishtov and Kardzhali. Over 600 children between the ages of 10 and 15 (4th through 9th grade) have been trained for several months. Their teachers also participate in the events, which builds a sustainable network for the sharing of knowledge. Thanks to wide media coverage - a total of 265 reports and publications in dozens of national and regional media, useful information on safe interaction rules and risk reduction has reached millions of audiences.

Project Results

Over 600 students between the ages of 10 and 15 were familiar with the specifics of truck traffic on the road, what are the main risk situations and how to avoid them. All the children climbed into the cab of the truck so they could see where the "dead spots" were, where the driver could not see them in the mirrors. The events in the country were widely covered by national and local TV, radio, newspapers, websites and social media - a total of 265 reports and publications
