Project description

Project Aim

The goal of the campaign which was started by the Health Department was to communicate with the people and try to educate them on the issue of being an organ donor. 1153 people are waiting for a transplant while relatives are skeptical and unwilling to agree to organ donations. This puts Bulgaria in the last 28th place in the EU by the number of transplants made hence hundred of lives lost of predominantly people below the age of 30 every year.

Project Target Group

This is something that everybody wins from - 1 organ donor can save up to 8 peoples lives. The idea was to expose the more than 1500 people at 60K to the issue which has become a society-wide problem. Organized were meeting with employees and the Red Cross volunteers who gave away donor cards.

Project Duration

The campaign runs every year in November on a national level. It started in 2019 and runs until 2023. we at 60K have pledged to participate in it for the next 4 years.

Project Activities

To the meeting and discussions in Sofia about 100 ppl showed up. Donor cards were given to ppl to fill out and there was a Q&A session. In Plovdiv slightly more people turned up about 400 because of the open plan of the office and because there are other companies on the same floor - we managed to reach some of their employees as well. We printed out 15 posters that were put across the two locations in places such as the game room, gym, the parking garage and the cafeteria. We did social media posts about the event and emailed people directly with updates about the campaign. There was no outside of 60K advertising done because the target audience for the campaign was internal. There was no specific budget allocated other than the ad hoc spending we did for the posters and travel.

Project Results

Because it's such a controversial topic it's difficult to answer the question here. We hope that the overall effect on the people who showed up (volunteers too) and signed a donor card was positive. That we were able to educate them about the issue and make them question the conservative views they hold towards it. A lot of people showed real interest and volunteered for next year's event. In the log run we hope to convince more people to sign up and to see visible results in the near future.
