Project Aim
According to the European Environment Agency, the pressure on nature causes enormous damage to human health. In Bulgaria, one of the leading causes of dirty air is industrial pollution. BHTC is following global trends in environmental protection for nature and people. With the introduction of new technological solutions and systems for continuous monitoring of its activity, the company makes a commitment in its annual goals to prevent air pollution above admissible levels.
Project Target Group
It is a priority for the company to ensure that the activities performed do not harm the population, flora and fauna. To these target groups are added current and future employees, residents of surrounding towns and villages, media and society, local and national institutions.
Project Duration
Since its launch in Bulgaria in 2013, BHTC has implemented all existing methods to limit the adverse effects on air, water and soil. For more than 6 years, the company has been making the most efficient use of the natural resources needed for the manufacturing process and for safely managing waste.
Project Activities
The extension of the plant took 1 year and was opened in June 2019. Construction was under strict control over the use of natural resources, incl. high quality water pipelines for minimal use of water supplies, restriction for use of idling mechanization. Special attention was paid to the soil, taking care of humus utilization.
The facility has high energy efficiency properties, including:
• energy efficient solutions for installations
• environmentally friendly energy sources
• implemented automated indoor climate control systems (BMS) for maximum control of the energy costs of the building
• the water is from own water sources - 2 pools with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters have been built
• LED lighting - with over 30% reduced power consumption
• continuous monitoring of air, natural gas, nitrogen and equipment serviceability
The expansion has created more than 250 jobs, and by 2022, BHTC will hire 400 employees.
Project Results
At the end of 2019 BHTC received certificates of the integrated system for Health and Safety at Work (ISO 45001: 2018) and Environmental Protection (ISO 14001: 2015).
BHTC won 1st Place for Green Investment in the National Competition "The Greenest Companies in Bulgaria" 2019. The prize was awarded for the extension of the plant, proven environmental practices and the pursuit of permanent implementation of high-tech solutions limiting the harmful impact on people and the environment.
