The National Palace of Culture (NDK) is the largest congress and cultural centre in Southeastern Europe. For 44 years it has hosted the most significant national and international conferences. At the same time, its main venue – Hall 1 – welcomes the country’s largest concert events on a daily basis.
Beyond being a venue, the NDK also produces its own cultural programmes in the form of festivals. Among them are the Salon of Arts, Kinomania, and the New Year’s Music Festival — all well-established fixtures in Bulgaria’s cultural calendar with four decades of distinguished history and reputation.
The architecture and engineering of the complex continue to attract the interest of institutes and experts nearly half a century after its design. Of particular fascination is the unique vertical solution of constructing three large conference halls stacked on top of each other, with a combined capacity of 6,000 attendees. This impressive feat is complemented by an exceptional synthesis of architecture and art within the Palace’s interiors — the work of some of Bulgaria’s most prominent visual artists of the 20th century.
Technically advanced and supported by a highly experienced professional team, the Palace remains the leading venue for major international conferences of global importance — such as the EU Presidency, NATO and UNESCO general assemblies, as well as high-profile political formats including Three Seas Initiative, EU–China Forum, and large-scale corporate congresses.
In 2005, the National Palace of Culture was awarded the AIPC Prize for the Best Congress Centre in the World.
