Students in Kyustendil with renovated sport facility thanks to the support of "Active and Healthy" Program

Danone Serdika and "Dimitar Berbatov"Foundation have completed one more project that is part of their joint "Active and Healthy" campaign. At the end of October the Mathematics School “Professor Emmanuel Ivanov” in Kyustendil opened for its students a renovated and equipped swimming pool. "It is a joy for us to make you this gift! Let sports be an integral part of your life!” said Dimitrina Hodzheva, Executive Director of the “Dimitar Berbatov” Foundation, to the numerous children present at the inauguration ceremony.

“The interest of the students shows that the choice of the evaluation committee was the right one. It also proves that the efforts we made to return sports and health back into the Bulgarian schools are timely and help resolve the problem of health behavior in children” said Kiril Hadjidinev, Marketing Director of Danone Serdika at the opening of the site.

The “Active and Healthy” Program is a joint idea of the largest producer of fresh dairy products in Bulgaria, Danone Serdika, and the "Dimitar Berbatov" Foundation. Its aim is to create lasting habits for a healthy lifestyle among school-age children through active sports and healthy eating. “Active and Healthy" was born as a reaction to the sad statistics of the National Center for Public Health Protection whereby every fifth child in Bulgaria is overweight and 12% of children are obese.”

The campaign took place in the months of October and November of 2009 when 2% of the purchase cost of each Danone product was donated to this initiative. The total collected amount was BGN 243 836 which Danone Serdika directed to the “Dimitar Berbatov” Foundation for school projects evaluated by a special committee. The Project “Active and Healthy" is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science.
