AES Starts New Eco Club in Galabovo

An eco-club for children aged 8 -14 was opened in Galabovo within the AES Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

The initiative aims to develop a responsible attitude towards environment protection and nature preservation issues in Bulgaria and on the whole planet. The club will meet on Wednesdays in the Information Centre of AES Galabovo. It will be headed by Maria Vateva, a lecturer  with notable experience on environment protection issues.

Special interactive trainings will be organized on the last Wednesday of every month. They shall be lead by representatives of Future Now environmental NGO, which supports the initiative.

"I believe that if we manage to convince the youngest ones that it is important for them to have a responsible attitude towards the environment we shall provide a basis for a cleaner future", said Peter Lithgow, Manager of AES.

Club activities will employ learning-from-experience method and will include tests, discussions and presentations. The interactive training shall include open-air classes, as well as visual and multimedia presentations in the training hall of the Information centre. Topics will include non-renewable energy resources, global warming and waste recycling.

The children will be able to use the Internet, write in a special eco site, as well as to cooperate and exchange experience with other eco clubs in the country.
