AstraZeneca supports the Fight against breast cancer

On October 21st, 2009, as part of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month dedicated to fighting breast cancer, the global pharmaceutical leader AstraZeneca, Maximum Magazine and City Center Sofia hosted a discussion and a fashion show.

At the event professional models alongside real women like Margarita Mihneva, who have overcome breast cancer, walked the catwalk. They presented the latest collections of leading fashion brands for the fall-winter season 2009/2010. The ladies sent a message of hope and courage to the women currently fighting cancer and participated in a photo session for Maxim Magazine. In the latest issue of the magazine, they tell the story of their illness, how they have overcome the related difficulties and have found the strength to move on and be beautiful.

Special guests at the event, traditionally organized by Prof. Ivan Chernozemski - Chairperson of the Foundation for the Fight with Cancer, Ass. Prof. Zdravka Valerisnova - Director of the Bulgarian National Cancer Registry and Teodora Zaharieva - Chairperson of the Center for the Protection of the Right to Health. They united behind the ultimate goal of the campaign in Bulgaria - to immediately launch a national screening program for for the age range recommended by the European Union.

At the event AstraZeneca announced the opportunity for free medical check-ups for breast cancer, which the pharmaceutical company is organizing for all interested women. The examinations will be held on:

Sofia

• October 22nd and 23rd by Dr. Mladenov in the hours of 14:00 to 18:00 in Polymed medical center

• October 26th and 27th by Prof. Veselin Tenev in the VIP Clinic medical center in the hours of 08:00 to 17:00.

Varna

• 22nd and 23rd of October : Check-ups will be held in the Interdistrict Dispensary for Oncology Diseases "Dr. Мarko Мarkov" in Varna in the hours of 13:00 to 17:00.
