Children Save the Lost Vitosha Forests!

Higher class students from the Anglo-American School in Sofia will plant trees in the devastated forest areas in Vitosha

On May 2, at 10 o'clock in the morning, many trees will be planted in the areas that have been devastated by insects and human activities in the vicinity of "Momina Skala", in National Park Vitosha.

Sixty students from the Anglo-American students will join a project - a model for "adopting" damaged and devastated forest areas, by planting 1200 new trees in an area of 5 decares. The children will provide a constant care for the trees in the next 5 years.

With this initiative, the Anglo-American school will support the realization of the Restoration of the Forest Ecosystems in Vitosha project, developed by the Initiative group "Vitosha".

Another key activity of the students is the developing and popularization of the model for "adopting" devastated forest areas among companies and organizations. The goals of the children are to persuade the companies to provide funds for the planting, as well as the participation of the company employees in the raising of the new trees.

In a long-term plan, it is expected to have all tree-chopping areas fully replanted again, in order to begin a wider intiative - to replant all such areas in bigger areas like those around Aleko and Ofeliite.

The eight-graders will shoot a movie, dedicated to the whole initiative as a part of their computer sciences school project.
