Sofia Event at Financial Times Highlights Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Efforts in Bulgaria

On 27 June 2024, an impactful event centered on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) took place at the Financial Times' office in Sofia. This gathering, attended by corporate and non-profit organisations, fostered meaningful discussions aimed at integrating DEI principles into local businesses and communities.

The day began with an insightful panel discussion featuring Rukasana Bhaijee, the Global Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Financial Times, along with other notable figures from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Progress, SAP Labs, and Yettel. The panelists shared their experiences and insights, focusing on the unique DEI challenges and opportunities within Bulgaria. Topics ranged from leveraging leadership roles to promote inclusivity, to tailoring global DEI strategies to better suit the Bulgarian context, with practical examples from their initiatives.

Following the panel, a dynamic roundtable discussion allowed a broader group of participants to delve deeper into specific DEI issues. This session emphasised collaborative strategies to overcome resistance to DEI initiatives, effective engagement of majority groups including middle management, and lessons learned from both successful and less successful initiatives.
