Less Cash and Business Ethics Education against Corruption

BBLF Executive Director took part in the Eight Anticorruption Policy Forum held on 21 March 2006. Organized on an annual basis, the Forum is a high profile public event for anti-corruption initiatives, supporting the efforts of civil society and public institutions in the fight against corruption.

In his address to the meeting Mr. Tassev recommended to decrease cash payments in order to generate transparency in transactions.

"BBLF is currently designing possible schemes for limitation of preconditions for corrupt practices. Cash feeds corruption and helps organized crime, smuggling and other crimes to be convicted", said Tassev. "Last year the International Monetary Fund recommended to Bulgaria that the payments higher than 10 000 BGN be made by bank, not in cash".

Mr. Tassev said also that BBLF members would approve such a change in case it is regulated by law. He pointed out to the positive examples of Belgium, Italy and the USA and added that BBLF would like not only structural and organizational measured to undertaken, but practical also.

Further in his speech he highlighted that the fight against corruption takes time, therefore the next generation's attitude towards the problem should be changed by introducing the subject of business ethics in the curriculum of the professional schools. A business school hour project is already under preparation by the Business Forum.
