Bulgarian Media Sign First-Ever Code of Ethics in Bulgarian Journalism

A Code of Ethics of the media in Bulgaria was signed on Thursday, 25 November 2004.

The unique and long-awaited for Bulgaria project has been managed by the BBC World Service Trust. Their partners in Bulgaria include the Centre for Media Development, the International Federation of Journalists, the Leipzig University and University of Technology Dublin.

The project's objective is to assist local media in their strife for independence through enhancing the professional standards in the journalistic profession in Bulgaria.

The unique for Bulgarian journalism Ethical Code aims to support local media in their pursuit of independence by means of improving professional standards in this field. The code includes provisions to serve as standards in the usage of information by unidentified sources, the preliminary non-disclosure of the source's identity, respect to everyone's personal life, non-publication of children's personal pictures, unless those are of public interest.
