BILLA Supports the Visually Impaired

The initiative follows the assisted shopping policy introduced by the chain in 2015

BILLA Bulgaria donated BGN 5,000 for the purchase of technical aids for struggling visually impaired people. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Union of the Blind in Bulgaria and will support over 150 visually disabled people. The donation will finance the purchase and distribution of blood pressure measuring devices, talking and Braille watches and folding white canes for orientation and mobility.

The aim of the charity initiative is to assist the visually impaired who cannot afford specialised technical means to help them overcome their visual disability and assist them in their daily routine.

"We strive to be consistent in all our initiatives. Support for disadvantaged citizens is one of them. Perseverance and work in the name of relevant social good causes will lead to a positive change in society”, Boyko Sachanski, BILLA Bulgaria Manager, said.

In 2015 BILLA became the first retailer in Bulgaria to introduce a policy for assisted shopping for customers with impaired vision. Employees of BILLA underwent specialised training to be able to assist visually disabled customers. The policy applies in all stores in the chain.
