TELUS International Europe Community Board Supports Bulgarian NGOs

Local health, environment and education projects benefit from CAD$100,000 annual donations

Today, the TELUS International Europe Community Board distributed CAD$100,000 (€74 000) to 20 local non-profit organisations. The Board started work in 2015 and will continue every year thereafter.

“It was a really hard task to choose the best of many good projects from such respected charitable organizations across Bulgaria and Romania. During the two voting sessions, the Board reviewed more than 150 projects. This demonstrates undeniable evidence that non-government organizations are really driving positive social change in Bulgaria and Romania,” Xavier Marcenac, President of TELUS International Europe, said.

The Board brings together distinguished community leaders and TIE team members to make decisions on philanthropic initiatives, specifically identifying where charitable funding will have the greatest impact.

“With this project we try to give a good example and we hope to attract more new participants in each new edition of the initiative. We strive to find the right balance between issues such as environment, health and education. In my opinion, the projects related to education are with high priority because when someone grows up educated enough he has much more initiatives in the future. We do our best to help thinking and active people to make a small step forward. Some of them exceed the expectations, and that is the role of the Community Board – to find these grains to promote them to the whole community, to support them develop and make the environment in which we live a bit better”, Levon Hampartzoumian, chairman of the Community Board, said.

The members of the Community Board are Levon Hampartzoumian, CEO and Chairman of MB of UniCredit Bulbank (chair of the Community Board), Silva Zourleva, member of the Managing Board of Nova Broadcasting group, Elvin Guri, CEO River Styxx Capital and founder of the charity campaign “Together in class”, Maggie Maleeva, former tennis player and founder of Gorichka.bg, Neli Radeva, founder and president of I Can Too Foundation, and representatives from the company. As a fundamental part of this corporate social responsibility initiative, TIE works in partnership with Krasimira Velichkova, the Director of Bulgarian Donors’ Forum (BDF) – the most powerful representative of non-government organizations and volunteers in Bulgaria.

The board reviewed more than 150 health, environment and education projects supporting families and youth in Bulgaria and Romania. Twenty non-government organisations earned the trust of the Community board members.

Since 2000, TELUS, TELUS International, their current and former employees have donated more than 6 million hours of voluntary work and almost €258 million to charities around the world. TELUS now has 15 Community Boards, including four TELUS International Community Boards, which donate more than €4 million annually. TIE was awarded the special ENGAGE Award for employee engagement in a CSR project, in BBLF’s 2014 Responsible Business Awards for the TELUS Days of Giving in Bulgaria.
