Through the TELUS Days of Giving and an investment of €15,000 in the Social Service Complex for Children and Families in Plovdiv the children’s home was renovated today by TELUS International Europe team members. The leading outsourcing company improved the environment and conditions in which children live and learn. In addition to cash donations, the company’s employees volunteered their personal time to refurbish the home.
The project is part of TELUS’ annual international volunteer campaign, held for the first time in Plovdiv this year. TELUS International Europe organised the initiative twice so far at the Louis Braille School for visually impaired children in Sofia, in 2013 and 2014. The third TELUS Day of Giving in Sofia will be held in September 2015.
"I am happy that an investment on such a scale is aimed at supporting our school. Many appreciate the fact that socially responsible companies like TELUS International Europe turn their attention to the needs of the children we teach, educate and nurture here. I thank the entire team for the enthusiasm with which they donated their time, financial contribution and good will to the community in Plovdiv. With the completion of these renovations, I can now happily say that the house, which these children call their home, has been significantly improved,” Nedka Petrova, Director of the Social Service Complex in Plovdiv, said.
"My portfolio in the Plovdiv Municipality is related to sports, youth and social policy, which is why I'm here today to support this wonderful initiative. This house is very valuable because it gives a home and upbringing to smart children who need special care. I congratulate the team for the great dedication, as well as the sponsors for helping the house get a new look," Petar Zehtiski, Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv, said.
“Every year, thousands of TELUS team members participate in volunteer activities in connection with a special day for our company, the TELUS Days of Giving. TELUS team members around the world join forces to contribute to a better life for those who are most in need. Today, we have 150 volunteers of the 200 Plovdiv team members participating,” added Jeffrey Puritt, President of TELUS International, who travelled from Canada to attend and participate in this special event. “We are planning a significant expansion of our team in Plovdiv. I hope next year we will have twice as many volunteers attend the TELUS Day of Giving.”
TELUS International Europe’s investment this year will overhaul the home and includes: plastering and painting the walls in the bedrooms and the staircases, buying blinds, new bedding and other supplies, and replacement of all light fixtures. Volunteers worked to refurbish the school; painting and arranging rooms, replacing the light fixtures, assembling new furniture, renovating and furnishing a special art room equipped with a new plasma screen, mini football and a playstation; renovating the summer-house and the playground in the yard, and mowing and cleaning the lawns.
