Business in Varna endorses BBLF Business Ethics Standard

More than 100 companies from Varna and the region discussed the principles of ethical business at a meeting hosted by Varna Mayor Mr. Kiril Yordanov on August 11, 2004. BBLF and United Nations Global Compact joined efforts to present the ethical values in business at a meeting called "The future is only for the ethical business".

Mr. Neil Buhne, UNDP Resident Representative for Bulgaria expressed his opinion that Varna is not only a very good business center, but also a city with a valuable experience to share with the rest of the country about building a reputation for Bulgaria as an international center for tourism and investments.

Mr. Maxim Behar, Chairman of the Forum, presented in Varna the Business Ethics Standard containing the 10 principles of ethical business conduct. Five successful Varna companies with excellent reputation were awarded the Standard: Riviera, Bon Marin Shipping Agency, Plannex, KRZ Odessos, and the Culture and Sports Center.

Varna Mayor Kilir Yourdanov, and Varna Regional Governor Yany Yanev also accepted the Business Ethics Standard.

"Varna is a very important stop on our joint Bulgarian tour with the Global Compact. If businesses in Varna endorse our standards for ethical, transparent and reputable business, then we will all be able to breathe easier and Bulgaria will become even more attractive to investors", Behar said. His idea of launching a BBLF branch in Varna was accepted with great interest by the business community in the seaside city.
