Eurofootball’s 32 New Sports Talents

Eurofootball ‘s 32 new sports talents, winners of the financing programme of the same name, were announced at an official ceremony on 28 February in Sofia’s Sports Museum. The young athletes from 14 disciplines, three of them disabled, got financing after they won the national competition held in January 2014. Eurofootball manager Ekaterina Mihailova who is also chair of the Group of Counsellors that selected the best nominees greeted the sports talents: ”I feel true joy for the fact that more and more sports talents are getting financing each year. We are here today to hear the names of the new batch, the 32 athletes who in the next couple of months will proudly call themselves Eurofootball’s sports talent. Dear sports talents, Eurofootball wishes you success and goals achieved”.

Athletes Evgenia Radanova, Tervel Pulev, Stela Eneva are some of the members of the Group of Counsellors who worked pro bono assessing the nominations. Iliyana Nikolova, executive director of partners from Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF), Eurofootball’s partner in the programme also congratulated winners.

The bookmaker has allocated a total of 86,000 leva to the programme. Each of the financed projects gets up to 5,000 leva. Athletes will spend the money on training programmes, competitions, equipment. 10 of this year’s talents were also backed by the programme last year while one of them, Mitko Tzenov, had been financed by Eurofootball in 2012 too.

13 of the winners are field-and-track athletes (with 2 paralympics among  them), there are also 2 taekwondo athletes, 2 canoe & kayak athletes, 2 judo athletes and 2 table tennis players (one of them disabled), while ice skating, water jumps, batut jumping, arm wrestling, ski running, rhythmic gymnastics, golf and swimming each have one athlete among the winners.

The Sports Talents programme is part of Eurofootball’s large project titled Win and Help launched in 2007.
