Project Aim
To support children's access to books appropriate for their age and desired by them. For this purpose, 870 requests in 14 settlements were sent completely free of charge by DHL in the campaign of the National Children's Network - an annual initiative that encourages reading and gives children access to books. According to NSI data, every sixth child in Bulgaria does not have access to books suitable for his age because of the social situation of the community or because of the place of life - poor regions, remote settlements without access to a community center or bookstore. The campaign sends the message that poverty is not just a lack of money, but a lack of access to opportunities including those provided by books – education, skills and knowledge, including career guidance.
Project Target Group
Children from all over Bulgaria, with whom the organizations in the National Network for Children work in places with various social, health and educational services for families and children, including those living in poverty, survivors of violence, children from foster families, children placed in refugee camps camps or in family-type accommodation centers or those who for other reasons do not live with their parents.
Project Duration
The campaign "A child is waiting for magic". Become a wizard - give him a book" takes place between November 25 and December 15 for the fourth year in a row.
Project Activities
The financial resources invested within the campaign are BGN 6,500, which served for: an opening event, redesigning the campaign's main website to facilitate donors, communication and logistics costs.
Project Results
With the realization of the four editions of the campaigns together with the donors, we have been able to support and delight nearly 10,000 children with their dream book. More than 3,000 donors have joined the campaigns. In the fourth edition, a record number of books were requested and delivered - 3,428. The campaign received wide media coverage and placed child poverty and lack of access to age-appropriate books as a socially significant issue, as equal to a lack of equal access to an equal start and equally well-being for all children in Bulgaria regardless of social status, place of residence or any other reason.
