Project Aim

The Human Safety Net initiative was established in Bulgaria in 2020. It aims to support people living in vulnerable circumstances. The main idea is to build a network of people helping people and this can result in a sustainable change with a positive effect. In Bulgaria, The Human Safety Net is focused on supporting children under 6 years and their families, living in vulnerable conditions. The main objectives are: - development and expansion of the programs for early childhood development and strengthening the families; - building the foundations for supporting and financing programs for early childhood development in Bulgaria; - expanding the capacity of For Our Children Foundation in order to provide high-quality early childhood development programs and services.

Project Target Group

- parents with children under 6 years old; - families in a disadvantaged position at risk of social exclusion (single parents, families with many children); - parents of newborn children at risk of abandonment; - foster parents and their children; - prospective adoptive parents, adoptive parents and their children; - children in kindergartens; - children with developmental difficulties; - specialists who work with children and families living in vulnerable conditions

Project Duration

The Human Safety Net and Generali Insurance AD partner with For Our Children Foundation within the framework of the Holistic Support to Early Childhood Development program. The organization provides key medical and social services to young children and their families living in vulnerable conditions.

Project Activities

1. The Human Safety Net Bulgaria participated in the Global Challenge of the network to raise funds. For a third consecutive year, two charitable tennis tournaments were organized in Sofia and Plovdiv. More than 75 people competed on the court in both cities. In addition, the employees organized their own individual challenges. At the end of the campaign, we had 17 interesting initiatives, and all the collected funds contributed to the set up and opening of play hubs in three small municipalities in Plovdiv region. 2. Charity bazaars on 1st of March and Easter, organized by the employees, who created martenitsi, prepared Easter bread and dyed eggs, which were offered at charity bazaars. 3. Christmas campaign – Employees participated in purchasing Christmas gifts for 177 children living in vulnerable conditions. 4. For the first time in 2023 Generali Insurance AD employees facilitated three training sessions that supported the development of capacity of the foundation’s team in the areas of effective communication and finance.

Project Results

In 2023 more than 3 200 parents and children from 25 locations in Sofia and Plovdiv regions received support through The Human Safety Net and For Our Children Foundation’s program. It had an indirect positive effect on an additional 556 children.
