Project Aim

Diversity and inclusion are central to SumUp’s business approach and practice and we have made substantive progress in this area since we started in 2021. Our commitments to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) are built around our values of “Founder’s Mentality”, “Team First”, and “We Care”. Being inclusive is a human rights issue and it is simply the right thing to do. We also believe that only if we are diverse, can we fully appreciate our merchants’ needs and thereby create the best services and solutions to help them build thriving businesses. SumUp’s D&I vision is to become a leading company in D&I that empowers the communities we serve and live in. In order to achieve our vision in Bulgaria, SumUp’s D&I team, leaders and employees are taking various actions outlined in this application.

Project Target Group

Employees: Initiatives for attracting, retaining and developing the best talent. Reach: 500 employees. Includes: awareness and education, female development program, well-being program as well as inclusive benefits Local market: Employer brand positioning as an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. Includes: participation national LGBTQ+ conference (‘21), hosted a human rights LGBTQ+ roundtable with 11 companies (‘22), participation in human rights conference (‘23). Project Duration

Timeline: 2021-2026 - Internal education & awareness. We regularly invite external experts to speak on a variety of diversity and mental health topics. We upskill our employees to become more inclusive leaders. Reach: 90%+ of the Bulgarian headcount joined at least one session. - External allyship events: So far, we had the opportunity to connect with local NGOs and companes, learn and exchange on the challenges that the LGBTQ+ community is facing in Bulgaria - and discuss inclusion practices.

Project Activities

In the period 2021-2024, we executed the following activities: 1. Internal: - Inclusive Leadership Workshop - we speak about topics like unconscious biases, and how to become an inclusive leader. 300+ participants from BG. - D&I e-Learning Journey - we cover topics such as gender equality, LGBTQ+, discrimination, neurodiversity, cultural diversity and others. 400+ participants from BG. - Anti-Harassment Training - mandatory online module for all employees. 250+ participants from BG. - Female Development Program - career development program for top female talent with participants from BG. - hOur Therapy - a mental health platform with qualified psychotherapeutic support. 50+ employees used so far from BG. Mental health talks - our closed-room session where employees share their personal mental health stories - and how they’ve coped with the challenges. 100+ employees attended from BG. 2. External: - LGBTQ+ events - conferences and workshops, with over 300+ attendees combined; Supported Sofia Pride with free card terminals, and reduced payment fees; - Employer brand campaigns - local employer brand campaign; Pride Month and Women’s Month campaign with participation from BG

Project Results

We conduct an annual global internal survey on D&I to better understand the representation of diverse groups across our markets and how they feel at SumUp. Participation is voluntary, response rate is over 50%. We see positive progress in terms of representation. In Bulgaria: - 60% of our workforce is female. - 31% of our senior leaders are female. - 6% self-identify as non-hetero (vs. 0% in 2022). - 36% are caregiversл - 9% have different abilities. - 22 nationalities are represented. In addition, 79% of our employees in Bulgaria feel that they belong at work. 75% find diversity and inclusion to be a top priority for SumUp on a local level.
