Project Aim
As a responsible company striving to contribute to Bulgaria's competitiveness and positive societal change, Lidl invests sustainably in building knowledge and skills, aiming to make people more prepared and successful in the 21st century. The significance of this investment lies in the broad range of activities, reaching various target groups with the potential to amplify the impact of acquired knowledge.
The project encompasses Lidl's over 4,000 employees nationwide. It is also directed towards current and potential participants in the company's youth programs and a diverse audience reached through various initiatives like "You and Lidl for Your Tomorrow," the Academy for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion, partnerships with the youth foundation "Arete," and more.
Project Target Group
- All over 4,000 employees through internal channels and programs
- Over 3,500 via youth programs, school campaign, student activities, events like Voice It
- 10 Arete scholarship recipients directly, hundreds indirectly (15 new scholarships upcomming).
- 45 participants in Academy for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.
- Engaging the broader community through initiatives like the videocast "Skills of the 21st Century" and "You and Lidl for Your Tomorrow."
Project Duration
The project for building new knowledge and skills is long-term, continually evolving to reach a wider audience. Linked to Lidl's understanding of the importance of training and developing current and potential employees, emphasizing the company's overall social responsibility by focusing on skill-building within target groups and applying them in practice.

- A campaign in 22 cities and 30 schools promotes professions, the benefits of responsible employment, and more.
- The Certification Academy for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion is a joint project of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum, Sofia University's Faculty of Economics, and Lidl, involving coordination, lecturers, scholarships, and employee engagement.
- Training and promoting Roma youth as positive role models for the community, in collaboration with the "Arete" foundation, including support for volunteer events, providing 10 scholarships, participation in academies like "Forward Together," and more.
- Dozens of activities with youth focus on career guidance and practical knowledge, including special sessions with students from Sofia University, New Bulgarian University, American University in Bulgaria, "Career Fair," Voice It, "Business in Action," Lunch with the Boss, and more.
- The CSR program "You and Lidl for Your Tomorrow" financed 36 projects in 21 locations, emphasizing education as a horizontal priority.
Project Results
- 100% of Lidl employees part of a talent management program with own plan with development measures. Interactive trainings for sustainable development "YOU", formats such as Scouts at work, etc.
- 40,000 completed hours of training by employees for 2023, an increase of nearly 10,000.
- 20% growth of the training and development budget for 2023.
- Nearly 150 managers in the Lidl Academy - a special program for leadership skills, a special academy for regional sales managers
- Nearly 700 employees trained in 21st Century Skills program with over 96% satisfaction, videocast created for wide audience
- Online learning opportunities with an internal digital training platform and LinkedIn learning
- "You and Lidl" will reach over 300,000 people from 21 settlements this year.
