Project Aim
The right of persons with disabilities to access information is enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The project examines how and to what extent public, educational and labour market institutions provide information to blind people by 2023. An analysis of the study has been prepared and recommendations have been formulated and provided to the responsible institutions in order to improve existing measures, improve the environment and introduce new measures.
Project Target Group
The target group is public and educational institutions, as well as institutions related to access to the labor market, providing information to citizens, as well as the blind and visually impaired in Bulgaria.
Project Duration
Paralax Life Sciences has a social responsibility programme that is proportional to its size and supports two social entrepreneurship companies, a couple of NGOs and a school for the visually impaired.
The project aims to improve the lives of blind and visually impaired people by facilitating their access to information provided by public, educational and labour market institutions.
The project was implemented within one year.
Project Activities
1. Conducting the research on accessibility to information by public institutions for blind persons. The study was carried out by a working group of blind people using a scenario including - accessibility to information on the organisation's website, response time by email and response time by telephone.
2. An assessment of the state of the facilities provided by the above-mentioned groups of institutions for access to information by blind people and the potential opportunities for their optimization and improvement.
3. Study of good European practices. Different approaches in providing access to information for the blind were identified and analysed with a view to borrowing good practices and adapting them to the Bulgarian environment.
4. Recommendations for improvement of the possibilities for access to information by blind people provided by: public, educational and labour market institutions.
5. The prepared Analysis was sent to the public institutions subject of the study for information.
Project Results
An analysis exploring the possibilities for blind and visually impaired people to access information provided by public, educational and labour market institutions. The analysis includes an overview of European and Bulgarian legislation on the subject, published examples of good European practices, as well as the results of the work of the focus group of blind people. Recommendations for improving access to information by blind people have been prepared and sent to the responsible institutions.
