Project description

Project Aim

1/3 of edible food is thrown away. Over half of food waste, however, occurs in our homes. That's why the Foodobox team is personally committed to raising awareness around this issue, albeit as a sideline to rescuing food through the mobile app. The youth develop a special educational lecture that is tailored for children from 1st to 7th grade and fits into 1 lesson. In 2022/2023 academic year they hold it in front of over 1000 children, together with their partners from Agro TV. This year, together with Kaufland Bulgaria, they are planning a larger scope - to hold it in front of about 4,000 children, giving them educational materials specially developed for the initiative. A key takeaway is the tips and tricks for reducing food waste at home.

Project Target Group

The project is aimed at the youngest generation - children from 1st to 7th grade - the future engines of change. Of course, a second target group is their parents, to whom the information and what was learned during the lecture reaches them. Our goal is to reach about 4,000 children and 8,000 parents by the end of the school year.

Project Duration

The pilot stage of the project consisted of m.09.23 to m.04.23 - academic year 2022/2023 in partnership with Agro TV. This year's edition will be held during the academic year 2023/2024, ending on 30.06.2024. Foodobox's mission is to reduce food waste, and although this project will end in 6 months, the company will continue to raise public awareness on the subject.

Project Activities

Each of the lectures is held in a school in Sofia in front of children from the 1st to the 7th grade, and we usually gather all the classes of a given grade in the Assembly Hall, and in this way we manage to present it to about 100 children at the same time. In the pilot edition, we gave away 1 educational plaque per school, covering a total of 10 schools. In the new edition, we have a circulation of 4,000 book dividers, cloth bags, stickers in 10 varieties, as well as a booklet with useful recipes and tips to reduce food waste, which we give to children.

Project Results

The feedback from children and teachers is positive - we are getting information that children are becoming much more aware of the topic of food waste and are starting to engage their parents in practices to reduce food waste at home.
