Project description

Project Aim

In the summer of 2023, we launched the "Pirinsko Clean Mountains" campaign with the aim of contributing to the preservation of the purity and beauty of the Bulgarian nature. The initiative was held to help clean up litter and prevent pollution in the mountains. During two consecutive weekends - on August 12 and 26, volunteers from all over the country had the opportunity to participate in the cleaning of the Pirin mountain near the Gotse Delchev hut and at the exit point for the Yavorov hut, where special Pirin corners were located for collecting waste. Anyone who managed to collect and bring waste from the mountain was rewarded with an ice-cold beer or a metal jug with a mountain motif.

Project Target Group

The Pirin Mountain cleaning actions brought together users, representatives of businesses and institutions, partners and employees of the company, as well as mountain lovers.

Project Duration

The campaign was held from July to September inclusive (2023). The initiative will continue in 2024.

Project Activities

A total of 110 volunteers, including employees of Carlsberg Bulgaria, their families and friends, cleaned in two parallel locations - the Rolban eco-trail near Bansko and the "Kyoskovete" area in the city of Shumen on September 16. Together they collected about 300 kg of waste, which contributed to the total result of the campaign – over half a ton of garbage collected for recycling. The volunteer cleaning action united the employees and their families, and people of different ages joined - the youngest participants were only 3 and 4 years old, and the oldest - up to 60 years old.

Project Results

This summer, more than 1,000 volunteers from all over the country joined the Pirinsko Clean Mountains campaign to keep nature clean. The events took place in August and September at various locations in the Pirin Mountains and in the city of Shumen. Thanks to the efforts of the volunteers, a total of 800 kilograms of waste was collected, including plastic bottles and packaging, cardboard, textiles, packaging, as well as organic and household waste. According to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI), one person in Bulgaria generates an average of 1.2 kg of waste per day. This means that the total amount of waste collected during the campaign – 800 kg, is equal to the daily waste of over 660 people.
