Project - Kaufland Bulgaria – the responsible employer

Investor in Human Capital and Working Conditions

Project description

Project Aim

Being an employer branding leader over the past two years has been a tremendous challenge, but we believe true leaders shine brightest in times of crisis. Thanks to the activities we have implemented, today Kaufland Bulgaria is a preferred, trusted and highly valued employer. As a company focused on achieving high competitiveness, it is important for Kaufland Bulgaria to offer secure and stable employment. We believe that the satisfaction of our employees is at the foundation of our success and therefore we continuously adapt our strategy, encourage their development and add new benefits to meet their needs. As part of our established practices, we offer competitive remuneration and a package of over 15 social benefits, continuous on-the-job training and career advancement opportunities.

Project Target Group

The implemented projects are aimed at all of the company's more than 6,400 employees in its three structures - store network, central warehouse and service office. They are aimed both at retaining and in-house developing the company's current team as well as at attracting new talent for all Kaufland's units in Bulgaria.

Project Duration

As part of its corporate employment policy, our company offers some of the most attractive wages in the modern retail sector, having invested in 2021 alone over BGN 6.8 million in social benefits. Each and every employee gets an opportunity for career development within the company, a chance to acquire additional qualifications, transparent performance feedback, mentorship and participation in training programs (6 per employee on average every year) geared to boost their knowledge and expertise.

Project Activities

As an employer, Kaufland Bulgaria's main priority is to develop its team by offering opportunities for career development and professional retraining. We also provide our employees with additional health insurance, sports cards, meal vouchers, flexible working hours, pay to the minute, newborn and first-grader gift packages, an extra day of vacation for all employees, etc. We have continued the "Manager to Leader" program, started in 2019, aimed at leadership development of experts with little management experience to enhance their knowledge and skills without binding them to additional binding contracts. We also implement projects aimed at young talent and future professionals. Now in its fourth year, we run "Managers of the Future", in which people with little or no experience are prepared for expert or management positions within the company. Thanks to our long-running apprenticeship programmes, between 70 and 100 students each year get the opportunity to gain practical experience in modern commerce. Since 2020, we have also launched a series of free online seminars called We Know, You Grow.

Project Results

Thanks to the numerous in-house training programs and talent management initiatives, 57% of our employees remain in the company for 3 or more years and 80% of the management staff have been developed and risen through their current positions. As a result of our good practices, in the beginning of 2022 Kaufland Bulgaria was certified for the fourth year in a row as Top Employer by the prestigious independent international Top Employers Institute. We also received ISО 45001, the first such certification for the company, ranking us among the leading companies in terms of quality and secure management of the working conditions for its employees. This international certificate is a guarantee of the high standard of the systems and processes for managing health and safety at the workplace.
