Project description

Project Aim

A long-term Company project, initiated in 2015 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Krumovgrad Municipality, with the purpose to: • Promote sustainable benefits for Krumovgrad Municipality residents through cooperation for economic and social development, i.e. support for infrastructural upgrades, healthcare, education, culture and sports; • Support micro, small and medium enterprises by creating sustainable employment opportunities that are unrelated to DPM’s local operations.

Project Target Group

Investments in projects and initiatives that improve local infrastructure, healthcare and education, and promote culture and sports, directly benefit Krumovgrad Municipality residents (19886 people), as well as Company employees, 97% of whom are locals, too. Local business entities are also among the project’s target groups.

Project Duration

The project started in 2015 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between DPM Krumovgrad and the Krumovgrad Municipality and has been ongoing for 7 years now. The main goal of the Memorandum is to improve living conditions in local communities and support sustainable municipal development.

Project Activities

Each year the Company and the Municipality sign an Annual Framework Contract for Community Investments, which sets out the projects for the respective year. Project proposals are signed off by the Municipal Council. Projects implemented in 2020: • Street rehabilitation in Krumovgrad • Energy audit of multifamily residential buildings • Ada Tepe museum exhibition • Search for archaeological monuments • Water supply for residential areas • Renovation of religious temples, both Christian and Muslim • Traditional folk costumes for vocal groups in the community centers in Tokachka and Strandzhevo villages • Purchase of fanfare musical instruments for the Children’s Community Center • Reserve fund to meet state of emergency needs (Covid-19 related) • Purchase of a ventilator for critical patients at Kardzhali Hospital Dr. Atanas Dafovski Support for Life + Krumovgrad Hospital • Cover financial deficits • Replacement of joinery; hydro and thermal insulation • Renovation of bathrooms • Purchase of an air conditioner and an anesthesia machine. • Reserve fund to meet state of emergency needs (Covid-19 related)

Project Results

Implemented projects resolve infrastructural issues of significant local impact and importance, contribute to local development and provide new local business and tourism opportunities; they also help upgrade healthcare infrastructure. Cultural activities enrich the community spirit, as well as preserve local customs and traditions in a region with rich history and cultural heritage, where two religions and four ethnic groups have been living together for years.
