The 2020 Investor in Knowledge Race

Investing in education and science is a smart way to achieve long-term positive impact on people, the economy and the future. So it is little surprise that Investor in Knowledge is the second most competitive category in 2020 Responsible Business Awards, this country’s prominent corporate social responsibility and sustainability contest with 27 entries.

The celebrated prize recognizes the endeavor of companies to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the educational system, expand the qualifications of youth, support science and research.

The big winner in 2019 was Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria with Youth Empowered, a career development programme. PwC Bulgaria was ranked second with The Most Important Lesson, a contest in support of young Bulgarian teachers. Two companies ranked third: L'Oreal Bulgaria with their fellowships For Women in Science 2019 and Nestle Bulgaria with a campaign for youth employment Nestle Needs YOUth.

Although 2020 was dominated by COVID-19, 25 companies demonstrated the pandemic did not put off their social campaigns in education. The best share of entrants, 24% are from the ICT sector, followed by industry and energy as well as consumer goods with 20% each. 12% of nominees are banks. Entries were also submitted by educational institutions, the health sector, the consultancy and HR sector. 64% of nominees are BBLF member companies and the operations of 12% are located outside of Sofia.

Champions in the six categories are determined by a renowned panel of judges featuring prominent experts in the NGO, public sector, academia, business and the media. Assessment criteria are as follows: specific benefits to the community; work in partnership with other stakeholders; employee involvement; consistency; innovation and public recognition.

BBLF organizes the Annual Responsible Business Awards for the 18th consecutive year BBLF to celebrate leaders in corporate citizenship and their contribution to building a sustainable economy and a better future for all.

Finalists and winners will be announced at a formal award-giving ceremony to be held whenever possible depending on the COVID-19 situation (we will inform you about the date in due time).
