31 entries of 27 companies compete for the prestigious title in the 2020 Responsible Business Awards
Despite the COVID-19 crisis – or maybe because of it – the most competitive category in the 2020 Responsible Business Awards, this country’s prominent corporate social responsibility and sustainability contest, is Investor in the Community with 31 entries.
For the 18th time the famous prize will go to the company with the best practices in support of the long-term social development and well-being of the community it operates in or the best social impact on the society at large.
The winner of the accolade in 2019 was Raiffeisenbank for the Choose to Help campaign, a fundraiser for social good projects. Back then LIDL Bulgaria ranked second with You and LIDL for a Better Life, a large-scale CSR programme. HPE took the prestigious third place with The Cause, their local volunteering team.
Today 27 companies are competing for the prestigious Investor in the Community award, and some of them nominated more than one entry. 2020 was a tough year but it showed the pandemic did not cancel the CSR agenda: many businesses adjusted their campaigns to support the effort against the coronavirus showing solidarity and donating funds. 55% of entries are directly related to COVID-19 and its consequences in healthcare, the education system and social care.
The largest share of nominations, 29% came from the consumer goods sector, followed by the industrial sector with 22%. Nearly 13% of entries were carried out by the ICT sector and 10% - by banks and insurance companies. A third of the entrants are non-members of BBLF and a fourth operate outside of Sofia. However, they all lead by example by sharing their impactful CSR campaigns while boostingtheir reputation of businesses with purpose and promoting the social good causes they support in the process.

Champions in the six categories are determined by a renowned panel of judges featuring prominent experts in the NGO, public sector, academia, business and the media. Assessment criteria are as follows: specific benefits to the community; work in partnership with other stakeholders; employee involvement; consistency; innovation and public recognition.
By organising the Annual Responsible Business Awards we at BBLF aim to celebrate leaders in corporate citizenship and their contribution to building a fair society and a sustainable future. Finalists and winners will be announced at a formal award-giving ceremony to be held whenever possible depending on the COVID-19 situation (we will inform you about the date in due time).
