The problem with financial education in Bulgaria – how to solve it? is the motto of Prof. Steve Hanke’s speech that opens Education and Business: Financial Education for Sustainable Economy conference. The world famous financial expert, known in Bulgaria as “the father of the currency board” will be attending the international event which will take place on 11 May 2015 at Sofia Hotel Balkan, starting 9 a.m. BBLF is among the partners of the conference which is organised for a second consecutive year by Bulgaria On Air Media Group, Bloomberg TV and Investor.BG Media Group.
“A professor with a Wall-Street mind” is how Bloomberg TV refers to Prof. Steve Hanke in a special publication. He is the author of the currency board system in Bulgaria that was introduced in July 1997 and put an end to the hyperinflation. Hanke was also economic advisor of President Peter Stoyanov. The Professor of Applied Economics has taught for 45 years at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, an institution with an annual research budget of .2 billion (a little less than Bulgaria’s budget). Prof. Hanke extensive bio also includes the position of economic advisor to US President Ronald Reagan and the Minister of Economy of Argentina as well as President of 1995’s fastest developing investment fund, Toronto Trust Mutual Fund Argentina.
The Education and Business: Financial Education for Sustainable Economy conference will gather representatives of the public, non-governmental and educational sectors and business people to discuss the need of financial education and the right direction to sustainable economy. Prof. Steve Hanke will also participate in the second discussion panel dedicated to the financial education and universities. Discussions will be moderated by Bloomberg TV London’s Nejra Cehic.
