Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova is now honorary member of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum for her substantial contribution to the distinct leadership group of companies committed to the principles of responsible and transparent business.
At a formal ceremony hosted by Sofia Town Hall on 14 May 2014 and attended by BBLF board members and the media Ms. Zoya Paunova, deputy chairperson, handed Ms. Fandakova her honorary membership certificate in appreciation of her long-term support of BBLF’s mission to encourage good business practices. Thus the mayor of Sofia joined this country’s top organisation in the field of corporate social responsibility comprising over 120 Bulgarian and international member companies.
„It is an honour and a privilege for me to welcome Ms. Fandakova today. It’s our way of showing our deep gratitude for her sharing our values and embracing our initiatives for so many years”, Ms Paunova said at the opening of the ceremony.
The Forum established in 1998 is a platform for encouraging the sustainable development of both the economy and the community and contributes to the dialogue of the private sector and the administrators and in designing better policies. „Developing our various initiatives would have been impossible without our good interaction with supporters who helped us promote responsible business practices. In Ms. Fandakova we have found a staunch and energetic friend and supporter of our work”, she added.
She also said that the arguments for Ms. Fandakova’s honorary membership included her support for BBLF’s projects and her personal commitment to the Forum’s good causes. In her capacity of chairperson of BBLF’s Annual Responsible Business Awards for five consecutive years now Ms. Fandakova has greatly contributed to the project’s mounting popularity among businesses. The latest, 11th edition of the Awards earlier this year saw the record-high 56 companies that entered a total of 70 projects.
BBLF’s Grand Charity Ball has been held under Sofia Mayor’s patronage for five years now. The event is a major project of BBLF that has managed to raise over 155,000 leva since 2008 helping community causes such as free in vitro procedures for underprivileged families, free breast cancer screenings, providing children with family environment and education. In result of this support 9 babies were born, and over 1,000 women were screened for breast cancer. Importantly, 65 of them were diagnosed at an early stage which means the screenings practically saved their lives. This year’s 6th edition of the Grand Charity Ball alone raised over 25,000 leva that will be split between 2 causes: free breast cancer screenings and preventing abandonment of newborns.
In addition, Yordanka Fandakova is a patron of the Inspirational Leaders Charity Auction that BBLF coorganises in partnership with Teach for All Foundation for two consecutive years. The total of 65,000 leva raised have been donated to the foundation’s case of providing quality education to every child in Bulgaria.
