The Responsible Business Community Supported Social Good Projects in Education and Healthcare

BBLFs 12th Annual Charity Ball was attended by representatives of leading companies

The responsible business community has once again come together to support meaningful projects in two of the most important social areas, education and healthcare. The Annual Charity Ball of BBLF held at Sofia Hotel Balkan on 4 February 2020 was attended by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Member of the European Parliament Eva Maydell. More than 80 representatives of the responsible business community from over 50 companies raised over BGN 43,000 through a charity auction and raffle that featured collectibles and exclusive experiences provided by members, partners and supporters of the Forum. Partners of the high-profile event were M3 Communications Group and Loran Gallery.

The charity auctions biggest bid was a visit to IBMs Watson IoT Headquarters in Munich and a meeting with its manager provided by Eva Maydell. Other highlights included the works of art by Vladimir the Master Dimitrov, Lika Yanko and Ilia Petrov; BBLF Board Member Maxim Behars bestselling new book The PR Revolution; vouchers for luxury hotels; original gifts provided by foreign ambassadors to Sofia. Our Board members brought in the good vibes by singing live a Beatles classic to a standing ovation and so did our host, TV and stage celebrity Aleksander Kadiev who also contributed to the auction and will be an inspirational speaker to a number of companies that offered the highest amount for his time.

The guests of the gala were welcomed by BBLF chairman Levon Hampartzoumian. The active and responsible part of the business has had a major role in building not only a functioning and strong economy but also a well-developed society that values social cohesion. To ensure sustainability of our efforts in supporting social good, this years Charity Ball will again benefit two projects that have united us all for sake of our better joint future," he said.

Half of the amount raised during the Ball will support the breast cancer prevention programme in partnership with Sofia Municipality and a number of hospitals that BBLF has supported from its very start. Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said that over 26,000 women had undergone free medical examinations in five years. "I am proud that Sofia has one of the largest prevention initiatives," she added. Gergana Kolarova, Executive Director of St. Sofia Hospital said: "On World Cancer Day February 4 it is crucial that we actively engage in prevention which truly saves lives."

The second part of the proceeds from the evening will support the innovative Management Academy for School Principals. Its pilot edition in 2019 was funded again by the Ball. The project is held under the auspices of the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev and implemented by Education Bulgaria 2030 Association. Eva Maydell, a co-founder of the association, presented the results achieved 24 school directors were trained in business skills by senior managers with international companies. The change in a school depends the most on the person who manages it and his leadership skills. Therefore, I would like to thank BBLF for recognising for the second year in a row the need for businesses to share their successful practices and tools with Bulgarian principals within the Management Academy for School Principals project of Education Bulgaria 2030, she said.
