CSR PROFILE BOOK Questionnaire 1. How does the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility correspond with the mission and heritage of your company? ING is a world leader in providing financial products and services to its customers across the globe. Our belief is that being a good corporate citizen includes involvement in activities in the country where ING is present and that sustainable development in financial services is related to the overall economic conditions in each country. In Bulgaria ING has been present since 1994, when a branch of ING Bank was established. In 2001 ING launched its pension insurance operations in Bulgaria. As a good corporate citizen, ING in Bulgaria has contributed to the realisation of a number of projects in the areas of environment, education and culture. In 2003 and in the years to come ING has undertaken a long-term project on the development and maintenance of a website on the ancient town of Perperikon. The website is being developed in close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Republic of Bulgaria. It is accessible at the following Internet address: www.perperikon.bg CSR CATEGORIES 2. Each year ING develops a training and development plan based on the training needs focused on each employee’s current and future job performance and the employee’s career development. A distinction is made between training focused on learning a number of basic skills, training focused on improving current job performance and training focused on future job performance. The annual performance assessment process is an important source of collecting information on an individual basis. ING Bank provides a study support (Higher Qualification Training [Re-training] to its employees, who would like to acquire MBA or enroll of an equivalent program. MBA should be in the field, which corresponds to the scope of the job position of the employee. Eligible staff are full time permanent employees after one year length of service, whose last year overall performance assessment score is standard or better. ING’s employees contribute to society by making their time and skills available to charitable causes through volunteering. Each year a fund-raising campaign for a children home in the town of Velingrad is held. 5. What is your company's CSR involvement with YOUNG PEOPLE and EDUCATION? ING’s focus on young people’s development is among its major priorities. Ever since the establishment of ING Bank’s office in Sofia in 1994, ING has been sponsoring the tuition fee of students at the American University in Bulgaria every year. State Agency for Protection of Children - the issue of "Prevention of Violence over Children" was published with the support of ING in Bulgaria /December 2002/ 6. What is your company's practice of BUSINESS ETHICS? ING Values represent the fundamental beliefs and the basics of our way of doing business. That is the core philosophy of ING. Additional Information: Corporate Social Responsibility Project - 2003 ING in Bulgaria in Support of the Perperikon Project – www.perperikon.bg ING in Bulgaria has committed itself to providing financial and other support for the development of a website devoted to Perperikon, a highly valuable archaeological site in the South of Bulgaria. ING Bulgaria is regularly involved in activities supporting the environment, education and culture in Bulgaria. The importance of Perperikon, an ancient capital of the Thracians, to Bulgaria is comparable with the significance of Delphi to Greece, or Troy to Turkey. Perperikon can become a first-rate instrument for promoting the rich history and cultural heritage of Bulgaria. Since it has the potential to become a top tourist attraction, Perperikon - with its archaeological remains dating from thousands of years BC - has more than historical value. Building on this opportunity, ING agreed to support the development of a special website, together with the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. It has promised to further develop and maintain the website during 2003 and for the next few years.
