CSR PROFILE BOOK Questionnaire 1. How does the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility correspond with the mission and heritage of your company? KPMG is the global network of professional services firms whose aim is to turn knowledge into value for the benefit of its clients, its people and its communities. In line with this global mission we are passionate about working with our public and private sector clients to deliver exceptional value and build management capacity, helping them prepare for EU accession. We are recognised by the public as an employer of choice because of the environment we have created and foster, enabling our people to realise their full potential. Furthermore, we continuously extend the frontiers of our shared knowledge both within the firm and in our community. CSR CATEGORIES 2. What is your company's CSR involvement with the COMMUNITY? KPMG has a strong CSR involvement through a number of regular and ad-hoc initiatives. One mainstream is related to our clients and it includes annual client seminars free of charge where we raise their awareness of developments in the accounting and tax legislation and practices. Tax and legal newsletters are prepared and circulated regularly. KPMG sponsors the Government's new initiative to recognise and promote high quality standards in public service delivery through an open contest for the Best Practice Public Services Award 2003-2004. The award was officially announced at an international conference entitled Public Administration in Services of Citizens and Business on 3 October 2003. This forms part of KPMG's active involvement in public sector reforms in Bulgaria. KPMG employees are leaders in professional organisations such as the Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Bulgarian Association of Management Consulting Organisations devising measures for strengthening and further developing the audit and consulting professions. We are active in BBLF, BIBA, AmCham, BHRMDA, Business Club of the German Economy, etc. Another field of community involvement comprises sponsoring of eminent artists and cultural events, including The Sofia National Opera Choir, Rumen Skorchev's Anniversary Monography and Zlatyu Boyadzhiev's Anniversary Exhibition, etc. KPMG staff are active members of charity organisations and take part in benevolent work related to orphanages and socially disadvantaged people. 3. What is your company's CSR involvement with the ENVIRONMENT? The activities of KPMG Bulgaria do not harm the environment. 4. What is your company's CSR attitude towards your EMPLOYEES? Dialogue In the year 2000 the company implemented a Global Performance Management Process called Dialogue, which allows us to maximise our people's potential. Dialogue is a process for setting goals, monitoring and assessing individual performance, and developing people. It focuses on both what we achieve - our business and financial performance - and on how we achieve it - our personal demonstration of the firm's global values and competencies. Learning and Development Programmes The company invests in its people offering them opportunities to develop and improve professional knowledge and qualification, as well as technical skills and capabilities. A high percentage of KPMG's revenues is invested in meeting development needs and training. Every employee is provided with a minimum of 40 hours of formal training per year, organised by KPMG training centres in London, Brussels and Budapest. In the last two years, half of the Bulgarians who have obtained the prestigious ACCA qualification were KPMG employees. Global Mobility Programme The programme offers KPMG employees the opportunity to gain international experience by working in other offices of KPMG worldwide for a given period of time. Staff Satisfaction Survey Every second year the company launches a Staff Satisfaction Survey administered by an international organisation. The employees' anonymous opinion on the working environment and leadership is elicited for consideration by the management for strategic decision-making purposes. Social Life Internal KPMG holds summer and winter staff parties and Christmas parties for the employees' children. Internal sports tournaments entitled ‘KPMG Parallel Olympic Games' have attracted a number of participants and fans for football, tennis, table tennis, bowling, basketball and volleyball. External KPMG is proud that its people are not only prominent employees but key figures in society as well: university lecturers, chairmen and members of different professional organisations and associations. 5. What is your company's CSR involvement with YOUNG PEOPLE and EDUCATION? Graduate recruitment initiatives in Bulgaria Traditionally, KPMG Bulgaria has been very active in graduate recruitment events targeting the young talents of the country. Presentations on a variety of topics have been delivered at leading universities. The Managing Partner led a discussion on corporate values at a meeting with more than 150 students majoring in Economics at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. The event ended with a cocktail at which the students had the chance to meet representatives of the firm's Senior Management. An Director Audit, delivered a presentation on KPMG's Audit Practice. The event attracted a large number of graduating students seeking professional advice on their carrier orientation. At the request of the Student Union of the Management Faculty at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, a Senior Manager presented KPMG as an employer of choice. KPMG Bulgaria receives award from Bulgarian Ministry of Economy On 14 and 15 April 2003 KPMG Bulgaria took part in the "Careers 2003" Forum, "Bulgarian Dream" Programme, organised by the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy. There was a high interest in KPMG as an employer, evidenced by the fact that more than 800 students visited our stall and around 400 KPMG recruitment brochures were handed out to those seeking either a full-time job or an internship for the summer period. We were very pleased to receive an award from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy as recognition of our consistent efforts in providing opportunities for young people to embark on successful carriers and find professional fulfillment. 6. What is your company's practice of BUSINESS ETHICS? Ethics including independence and integrity are fundamental to our approach to doing business. All KPMG people are bound by a common Code of Conduct that governs the relationships with clients, staff and the local community. Download file |
